The 3 named Hierodules ("Holy Slaves") from Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun. Also derogatorily referred to as Cacogens ("Horror Makers"). Basically, these are Wolfe's take on the 'Ancient Alien' trope, though far more religious (and ambiguous) in nature.
